As a teenager I dreamt of cycling glory by way of a solo win on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia or a victory lap on the Champs Champs-Élysées in Paris. However there was another perhaps equally unlikely dream, which was to race my bike in Israel at the Maccabi Games. The problem was that no cyclist has ever ridden their bike in the games because bike racing has never been part of the competition.
This coming July, for the first time in the 60 year history of the Maccabi games, bike racers from around the world will converge on Jerusalem to compete in a 40km time trial and a 90 mile road race. I am requesting your help in moving me one or two pedal strokes closer to this life long vision.
Sometimes referred to as the Jewish Olympics, The Games are held every four years and attract the most outstanding Jewish athletes from around the world in a multitude of disciplines. This year, more than 9,000 athletes will compete in the world’s third largest international athletic competition (only bested by the Olympics and Asian Games). The event is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and will take place from July 12-23, 2009.
But if I am to be among them, I’ll need your support.
This is an opportunity for anyone with a stake in the world of cycling to contribute to the sport at the highest level. Not only will get the satisfaction of being involved in a world class event that has never occurred before in the history of the sport but your donation will also support humanitarian efforts in Israel including The Israel Sport Center for the Disabled and the Maccabi World Union Project Tikvah which uses sport to help Israel’s victims of terrorism. Of no less importance, you will give Jewish athletes an opportunity to connect with the State of Israel, and to their Jewish roots.
Your donation will help me raise the $5,000 necessary to ensure my spot in the games and cover expense for travel, hotel and equipment. Donations are tax-deductible and corporate sponsorship (i.e. logo placement on the team jersey, website and in marketing material) is available.
Please join me in supporting this historic cycling event. A contribution in the form of a charitable donation or sponsorship investment would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to contact me at Josh@LiquidFitness.com or at 310 979-3599 to learn more about the games or specific sponsorship opportunities.
Sincerely,
Josh Horowitz
