Liquid Fitness/Adageo Energy finished the season in style this weekend, winning the Sisquoc Road Race, the final competition in the season long So Cal Cup competition. Although a win for Liquid racer Rudy Napolitano would have moved him from second to first in the Cup, it was Tommy Nelson who sweated out the 110 degree heat to take out the win in a 3-up sprint to the finish. The oppressive heat combined with poor air quality due to nearby fires whittled the field of 75 starters down to just 10 finishers.
A win in those conditions truly shows the mental toughness of Nelson who also won the grueling road stage of the Southern Nevada Stage Race against Australian National Champion Ben Day. While the rest of the team is taking some well deserved time off before they start their off-season training, Tommy and Matt Landen will be heading up to Bishop, CA to contest the nefarious Everest Challenge. 208 miles, 29035 feet of climbing (the height of Mount Everest), two days.
